Nature’s Sunshine Enters CBD Market

September 10, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

Nature’s Sunshine Products, Inc. recently announced that it will enter the CBD market with a full line of hemp-derived CBD products.

Scientists at the company’s Hughes Center for Research and Innovation have developed a series of proprietary products containing whole spectrum hemp extracts containing naturally occurring CBD that deliver targeted levels of phytocannabinoids to trigger specific cannabinoid receptors in the body. Scientists at the Hughes Center have also leveraged the company’s industry-leading expertise in herbal supplements to integrate unique and proprietary combinations of natural herbs, phyto-nutrients and herbal essential oils to optimize performance.

According to the company, this hybrid approach results in a targeted and effective CBD product that naturally helps keep the endocannabinoid system in balance, meaning that the body can perform at its optimal level.

“We are excited to be entering the CBD market with a unique line of products that take CBD to the next level by redefining quality and performance,” said Terrence Moorehead, president and chief executive officer. “What’s more, consumers know they can trust Nature’s Sunshine because of our high standards, in-depth quality testing, and award-winning production. We believe Nature’s Sunshine is uniquely qualified to take the fast-growing CBD industry in the right direction and offer consumers the best most reliable products on the market.”

The full line of products will be released across multiple distribution channels. Strong emphasis will be placed on traceability and improved sourcing which will allow Nature’s Sunshine to deliver active compounds that offer better performance, quality and transparency while improving the overall consumer experience.

Plexus Donates Over 1,700 Backpacks to Non-Profits

September 10, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

Plexus Worldwide recently announced that it is donating 1,735 backpacks to several local non-profits focused on helping children thrive.

The donations will benefit local groups that work directly with Phoenix-area children to ensure they have everything they need to start the school year off well-prepared. The donations included:

  • 780 to Arizona Helping Hands
  • 450 to The Salvation Army
  • 200 to Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock
  • 200 to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul
  • 65 to Child Crisis of Arizona
  • 40 to Cancer Support Community Arizona

“Many of the employees and Ambassadors at Plexus are parents, so we know how important it is for children to have all the necessary school supplies so they can focus on their studies and get off to a great start,” said Mary Ann Luciano, vice president of Philanthropy at Plexus. “We are so thankful for our non-profit partners which serve our community every day and help us provide aid to vulnerable families.”

Recent surveys show that over 20 percent of children in Arizona are food insecure, which can create challenges and barriers to learning in school. Luciano says that they hope to support these families as much as possible to help students of any background succeed this school year.

Plexus also supports Nourish One®, a one-for-one initiative where one serving of Plexus Lean™ equals one meal for a child or family in need through Feeding America®—the nation’s largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of food banks. One dollar helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks.

“I’ve had the good fortune of knowing Charlie for more than a decade as we collaborated in industry meetings,” said founder and CEO Jeff Stroud. “In looking to launch SOMNVIE, I knew Charlie’s reputation, vision and operational knowledge would be a boon. He will be joining our powerhouse executive committee which includes Jeff Reigle and Keith Peterson among others.”

QNET – 21 Years of Empowering Entrepreneurs

September 8, 2019 by QNET Leave a Comment

The Beginning

QNET was founded in 1998 in the aftermath of the Asian Financial Crisis, and the heels of the dotcom crash that turned many local Asian economies upside down. It was a time of turmoil in more ways than one for a group of young Asian entrepreneurs who were reeling from having just discovered that an American Direct Selling company they were associated with, had disappeared overnight. They were left with liabilities upward of $250,000 and a team of 1,500 people who had put their trust in them.

Out of this crisis, the seed of the idea for a new company to support their team, was planted. That was the beginning of the company that came to be known as QNET.

The Founders and the Philosophy that Drives QNET

Vijay Eswaran and Joseph Bismark didn’t quite start off wanting to build a company to change the world. But when faced with an impossible situation, they powered through to take forward the aspirations of those who had put their faith in them to change their lives. Since then, they have overcome innumerable obstacles to build a business that has become a vehicle of change for thousands of people around the world.

Vijay Eswaran and Joseph Bismark may have come from very different backgrounds— one a trained economist, and a product of Corporate America, the other a former monk, with no formal education; and yet the purpose that brought them together has been at the core of the organisation they built — RYTHM, an acronym for Raise Yourself To Help Mankind. This is the principle that lies at the heart of QNET.

Inspired by the life and teachings of the humanitarian and peace activist Mahatma Gandhi, the Founders were unwavering in their vision to build an organisation that would help empower people, to raise them to see beyond their limitations, and to inspire them to not just change their lives, but also impact their communities in a positive way.

Today, while the Founders are no longer involved in the operations of QNET, their vision and continued mentoring drives the company forward as it enters its third decade.

Who is QNET?

QNET was one of the earliest companies in the industry to merge the tried and tested model of direct selling with the then emerging model of e-commerce, providing customers with access to unique high-quality products and services from around the world. This also allowed the customers the opportunity to become distributors by building a borderless sales business that helps connect people, products, and communities.

QNETToday, QNET is known as a pioneer of the direct selling industry in many emerging economies; a company that has enabled a diverse global community to rise through solutions that empower entrepreneurship and enhance lifestyles. A company that has made dreams come true for hundreds of thousands of aspiring young men and women from Malaysia to Mali, Indonesia to Istanbul, and Kazakhstan to Cote’ D’Ivoire.

QNET is headquartered in Hong Kong and is a member of the Direct Selling Associations of Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, and UAE. The company’s central operational base is in Malaysia, with global logistics hubs in Malaysia, Turkey, India, Dubai, Russia and Togo, and offices and agency partners in 25 countries.

QNET’s Products — Absolute Living

As a direct selling company that specializes in Health, Wellness, and Lifestyle products, QNET aims to help people take charge of their lives— live healthier, focus on personal development, improve the quality of their relationships with their family and friends, and plan for a secure future for their children.

Based on the concept of Absolute Living, these products and services have the overarching goal of making complete wellbeing accessible to all. The company’s research and development teams work with an international panel of experts as well as a scientific advisory board to source and develop the highest quality of products to help customers live holistic lives. These include home care products such as air and water filtration systems in developing countries, personal care solutions for both men and women to combat the stressors of modern life, university accredited e-learning courses for aspiring entrepreneurs, and nutrition and wellness products designed to make holistic living easy and accessible to all.

QNET also works with small and medium enterprises in many countries to source local products for that market, thereby helping to promote small local businesses. Some of the countries where QNET has successfully implemented the local first model includes India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey and Russia.

Giving back

QNET’s founders have always advocated the need to work towards a goal beyond financial success. They believe that money is just a by-product when people work towards driving lasting change in their lives. These ideals have grown to become the lifeblood of the RYTHM Foundation which serves as the social impact initiative of the company.

The Foundation is guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which provides the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

QNET works closely with RYTHM Foundation on several projects in developing countries to make a difference in local communities. These include support for literacy programs for young girls from low income families in Sub-Saharan Africa, skills training for economic empowerment for women in rural India, a school for children with special needs in Malaysia, and life skills training and Community Capacity Building in Indonesia, among others.

The Future

With the rise of the gig economy, there are many more opportunities available today for those looking to make an additional income with control over their time. Direct selling companies the world over find that they are competing with the influx of flashy new companies that offer side hustles. However, recent research has shown that despite its much-touted flexibility, the gig economy isn’t much of a place to build a career.

QNET recognises this and is focused on continuously improving its product offerings, customer experience, marketing and sales strategy, and compensation plan, to help people build a business that lasts. The QNET business is not just about earning an income, but about building a community.

Many American and European companies are now discovering the potential of the vibrant, youth dominated Asian markets, a secret QNET has been onto for two decades. As a pioneer in direct selling in many new developing countries, QNET hopes to continue leading the way as more countries discover the power of direct selling. If the last 21 years are any yardstick to go by, the next 21 promise to be an equally exciting story of growth and empowerment.

25 Books for Self-Improvement Month

September 5, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

September is self-improvement month, a time to focus on improving yourself to achieve desired goals.

With the help of SUCCESS magazine, we have compiled a list of 25 books—from timeless classics such as James Allen’s As a Man Thinketh to recent bestsellers like Nike swoosh creator Phil Knight’s Shoe Dog—that provide insights on maximizing potential, overcoming fears and recognizing the pivotal moments that can have the greatest impact on your life.

1. Acres of Diamonds: All Good Things Are Possible, Right Where You Are, and Now!

Opportunities for success, wealth and happiness often lie under foot and yet go unnoticed. This little book, originally a speech by Russell Conwell, serves as a reminder not to overlook the abundance right on our doorstep. This timeless work addresses the myth that fame and fortune are waiting somewhere “out there.” Conwell also dispels the notion that men and women of integrity shouldn’t desire money or wealth. He advises readers to begin searching for the diamonds in their lives… at home.

2. As a Man Thinketh

“This little volume” as James Allen refers to it, has been a source of inspiration for millions and has influenced the work of many respected personal-development leaders. And with statements such as, “The soul attracts that which it secretly harbors, that which it loves, and also that which it fears,” Allen paved the way for many contemporary philosophers. At its core is the belief that “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

3. Awaken the Giant Within: How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny!

Within each person is a sleeping giant of greatness. With this book, motivational coach Anthony Robbins seeks to help you “take immediate control of mental, emotional, physical and financial destiny.” This personal-development classic delves into the specifics of goal setting, achieving success in relationships, talking to yourself and discovering your true potential.

4. Chicken Soup for the Soul Series

The phenomenal success of Chicken Soup for the Soul offers inspiration on many levels. From the tenacity it took to get the first Chicken Soup for the Soul published (Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen were rejected by 140 publishers and their book agent before finding a publisher willing to take a chance on their idea) to the thousands of touching and thought-provoking stories, these books will warm your heart and may help you view life from a new perspective.

5. Grit: The Power of Passion a Perseverance

Pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth shows anyone striving to succeed—be it parents, students, educators, athletes or businesspeople—that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a special blend of passion and persistence she calls “grit.” Duckworth mines fascinating insights from history and shows what can be gleaned from modern experiments in peak performance.

6. How To Win Friends and Influence People

First published in 1937, How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie was an overnight success with staying power. Today, this book is regarded as one of the all-time best for its lessons on dealing with people. It is packed with anecdotes from historical leaders and lessons learned or taught by some of history’s greatest businessmen, making the read as interesting as it is enlightening. And the methods—calling a person by his or her name or looking at the situation from the other’s point of view—work in business and in personal life with family and friends.

7. Leadershift: The 11 Essential Changes Every Leader Must Embrace

Change is so rapid today that leaders must do much more than stay the course to be successful. If they are not nimble and ready to adapt, they won’t survive. The key is to learn how to leadershift. In this book, John C. Maxwell helps leaders gain the ability and willingness to make leadership changes that will positively enhance their organizational and personal growth.

8. Linchpin: Are You Indispensable

In bestsellers such as Purple Cow and Tribes, Seth Godin taught readers show to make remarkable products and spread powerful ideas. But this book is about you—your choices, your future and your potential to make a huge difference in whatever field you choose.

9. Man’s Search for Meaning

Man’s Search for Meaning is a 1946 book by Viktor Frankl chronicling his experiences as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps during World War II, and describing his psychotherapeutic method, which involved identifying a purpose in life to feel positively about, and then immersively imagining that outcome.

10. Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

In this book, Carol Dweck explains why it’s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success, but whether we approach them with a fixed or growth mindset. She makes clear why praising intelligence and ability doesn’t foster self-esteem and lead to accomplishment but may actually jeopardize success.

11. See You at the Top

There’s room for you at the top! Zig Ziglar’s message has inspired millions to change their lives by helping them do, be and have more than they dared dream possible. Ziglar offers a nuts-and-bolts approach to developing the self-image, attitudes and habits that make people successful. Learn how to set and achieve goals, how to create momentum that propels you forward in life and why being focused on others is a critical aspect of success.

12. Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike

Phil Knight, the man behind the swoosh, has always been a mystery. In Shoe Dog, he tells his story at last. At twenty-four, Knight decides that rather than work for a big corporation, he will create something all his own, new, dynamic, different. Knight details the many risks he encountered, the crushing setbacks, the ruthless competitors and hostile bankers—as well as his many thrilling triumphs.

13. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

While Stephen Covey wasn’t the first to write a book on becoming a better, more effective person, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People marked the beginning of a revitalized interest in personal development. Unlike many authors of books in this genre, Covey doesn’t promise a simple, quick fix for creating a better life. In fact, mastering the seven habits he outlines could take a lifetime. But as with many personal-development efforts, it’s what you learn as you work toward becoming a truly effective person that matters.

14. The Greatest Salesman in the World

In Og Mandino’s classic, ten ancient scrolls hold the key to wealth and happiness in this classic parable. A young camel boy wishing to improve his station in life takes his master’s words to heart: “No other trade or profession has more opportunity for one to rise from poverty to great wealth than that of a salesman.” Desiring success and wealth, the young man sets out to become the greatest salesman in the world.

15. The Magic of Thinking Big

Thinking big separates the achievers from the average. In this best-selling classic, David Schwartz suggests that it’s not necessarily intelligence or work ethic that move people up the ladder of success, but the personal choice people make to believe that something bigger and better is possible.

16. The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph

We are stuck, stymied, frustrated. But it needn’t be this way. There is a formula for success that has been followed by the icons of history—from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs—a formula that let them turn obstacles into opportunities.

 17. The Power of Moments: Why Certain Experiences Have Extraordinary Impact

New York Times bestselling authors Chip and Dan Heath explore why certain brief experiences can jolt us and elevate us and change us—and how we can learn to create such extraordinary moments in our lives and work. The book delves into some fascinating mysteries of experience: Why we tend to remember the best or worst moment of an experience, as well as the last moment, and forget the rest.

18. The Power of Positive Thinking

The belief that positive thoughts lead to a positive reality isn’t a new phenomenon. Decades before The Secret, Norman Vincent Peale wrote The Power of Positive Thinking. The book teaches readers that focused, intentional and unyielding belief is required before they can achieve the lives they desire.

19. The Richest Man in Babylon

Too often, life doesn’t turn out as expected. And money, or the lack of money, plays a large role in people’s ability to handle life’s ups and downs. Perhaps that’s why, in the 1920s, banks and insurance companies decided to distribute short parables written to educate people on important financial principles. The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason began in 1926 as a series of pamphlets, the most famous ones later compiled into one of the best-loved money guides of all time.

20. The Seasons of Life by Jim Rohn

Approval of Oriflame Merger Set for Sept. 30

September 4, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

The Board of Directors of Oriflame Holding AG has set a meeting on September 30 for approval of the merger with Walnut Mergeco AG, a Swiss entity 100 percent owned by Walnut Bidco Plc.

Following the delisting of Oriflame on July 17, the Board has resolved to call the remaining shareholders to an Extraordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting for approval of the merger between Walnut Mergeco AG (as acquiring company) and Oriflame Holding AG (as acquired company). The merger proceedings will be carried out in accordance with Swiss law.

The remaining minority shareholders of Oriflame Holding AG (2.58 percent of the votes and capital) will receive compensation equal to the offer price of SEK 227, less dividends paid since August 15, 2019.

On May 22, five days after co-founder Jonas af Jochnick passed away, the af Jochnick family, through Walnut Bidco Plc, announced a public offer to the shareholders of Oriflame Holding AG to tender all shares in Oriflame to Walnut Bidco. The newly established company indirectly wholly owned by members of the founding families of Robert af Jochnick and Jonas af Jochnick, respectively, and certain closely related parties to them, controls shares representing 30.82 per cent of the capital and votes in the company.

Walnut Bidco launched the offer of SEK 227 in cash per Oriflame share. In June, the Independent Bid Committee of the Board of Directors of Oriflame Holding AG unanimously decided to recommend the shareholders of Oriflame to accept the offer.

Measuring Brand Success Without “Likes”

September 4, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

The “Like” counts on Instagram and Facebook posts may be going away, leaving brands without a valuable measurement of how consumers feel about their products.

In April, Instagram began testing the hiding of Likes in Canada, expanding to Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Ireland and Japan in July. In those countries, a post shows just a few names of mutual friends who’ve Liked it instead of the total number. Instagram said the reason for the new feature is to have users concentrate on their posts and interacting with the app, rather than Likes.

Now Facebook has confirmed to online technology news source TechCrunch that it too could soon start hiding the Like counter on posts, and ultimately remove it altogether.

“Personally, while I value Likes from a metrics visibility perspective, I’m always in favor of anything that can cultivate better content creation, storytelling and community engagement.” – John Oates of JPO Digital

“This move by Instagram is meant to put the focus squarely on the quality of the content that users, influencers and brands are sharing,” said John Oates of JPO Digital. “A greater onus will have to be placed on what is being posted and how they are engaging with their communities rather than just the perceived relevance that comes along with a large Like total.”

Engaging Through a Personalized Community

Businesses have long used social media platforms to market their products and one measurement of a marketing campaign’s success has been Likes. The removal of them on Instagram and Facebook will likely force businesses that rely on social proof to measure what value and impact in other ways and to work even harder to deliver stronger content.

Supernova, a Singapore-based social e-commerce company offering health, beauty and fitness products, has created a community on Instagram that allows the company to talk with its audience to ensure that customers stay engaged and trust the brand.

Identifying and developing a community on social media starts with creating personalized content and then taking advantage of the opportunities found with social media influencers. Their strength, says Supernova, is in creating content, and the better content they can create, the more working together with a brand makes sense. In a world without Likes, influencers would be pushed to create not only better content, but more diverse types of content such as videos and Instagram “stories.”

“The Like total is a fundamental part of the infrastructure and user experience, and it will be interesting to see how the community reacts to it being stripped away if this feature does get rolled out site-wide,” said Oates. “Personally, while I value Likes from a metrics visibility perspective, I’m always in favor of anything that can cultivate better content creation, storytelling and community engagement.”
