Traveling Vineyard’s New Vintage to Support the American Brain Tumor Association

October 21, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

Traveling Vineyard announced the release of 2018 Bella Mente, Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio, Italy, a special charity wine created to support the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA).

Since the inaugural release of the Bella Mente label in 2015, Traveling Vineyard has donated $1 from the sale of every bottle to ABTA—nearly $90,000—through its wine community of 5,000 independent Wine Guides in 38 states who market wine as part of their Traveling Vineyard home businesses.

Bella Mente, Italian for beautiful mind, was inspired by Ted Bohnert, husband of Wine Guide Lori Stryker, who was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme in 2014 and died 10 months later. During his battle, Bohnert volunteered to participate in as many phase-zero experimental clinical trials and research programs as he could, hoping his participation might help save others in the future. In 2015, Traveling Vineyard launched the Bella Mente label to carry on his fight.

“The reality is that brain tumors impact a wide number of people,” said Rick Libby, chief executive officer of Traveling Vineyard. “In our Wine Guide community, we have been deeply moved by stories about loved ones who have been newly diagnosed or who have passed away. With Bella Mente, we’re able to honor those within our community, and help fund the initiative to change the course of this devastating condition.”

Funds raised by the ABTA are allocated to research, patient education and support services. To date, the ABTA has invested more than $32 million in brain tumor research.

October 18, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

Herbalife Nutrition recently announced an extension of its support for the American Red Cross for the 21st consecutive year.

Over the past four years, the company has donated more than 1.1 million Protein Deluxe Bars, valued at $2 million, to 120 Red Cross blood donation centers across the U.S. In addition to product donations, the company hosts blood drives for its employees and independent distributors.

“Our partnership with the American Red Cross is built on the shared principles and values of helping others, and we look forward to another year of working together and changing lives,” said Alan Hoffman, executive vice president of Corporate Affairs, Herbalife Nutrition.

Most recently and for the second consecutive year, Herbalife Nutrition has joined other major organizations to support the American Red Cross Missing Types Campaign by promoting the need for blood donations. Also, independent distributors and employees generously participated in U.S. and international relief efforts, helping people affected by disasters, including Hurricane Florence, California wildfires and the Ridgecrest earthquake.

“The Red Cross relies on partners like Herbalife Nutrition to help ensure lifesaving blood donations are available to patients in need,” said Elizabeth Penniman, vice president of American Red Cross. “We are thankful for Herbalife Nutrition’s longstanding support of our mission and our blood donors by providing them important and nutritious snacks after they give blood.”

Since 2006, blood donations from more than 60 company-hosted blood drives, combined with the donations collected on the Herbalife Nutrition bloodmobile in Southern California, have saved countless lives. Also, since 2008, an Herbalife Nutrition executive has actively participated as a member of the board of directors of the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region.

Each stop of the tour to date has attracted between 200 and 800 attendees. Herbalife Raising Healthy Diets Awareness for World Food Day 2019

October 16, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

In recognition of World Food Day, Herbalife Nutrition is raising awareness of this year’s theme “Healthy Diets for a #ZeroHunger World.”

World Food Day is sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Herbalife is sharing tips on reducing food waste and calling on its independent distributors, employees and the more than 7 million members of its social media community to take action in making healthy and sustainable diets available and affordable.

“Hunger is a rapidly growing global crisis and we hope that by educating people about all the ways they can help, including reducing food waste, we can help build a world where everyone has access to quality food,” said Dr. Kent Bradley, vice president of Medical Affairs and Nutrition Education at Herbalife Nutrition.

The education-driven campaign is part of the Herbalife’s Nutrition for Zero Hunger initiative, which, in collaboration with nonprofit partners, focuses on providing access to healthy foods, improving nutrition education, identifying sustainable food resources and helping raise awareness of the global hunger crisis. In September, the company launched its Nutrition for Zero Hunger global initiative to help end world hunger, aligning with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal #2, which calls for bold action to end hunger in all its forms by 2030, as well as solutions to achieve food security and improve nutrition worldwide.

One of the major contributing factors to global hunger and food insecurity is food waste, with 1.3 billion tons of food produced globally being lost or wasted. Some of the tips on how to reduce food waste being shared by Herbalife with its nonprofit partners and their communities include:

  • Know Food Expiration Dates – Understanding expiry dates for food can help reduce throwing out food that is still good. A “sell-by” date is the date that food has to be pulled from store shelves, a “use-by” date is suggested for best flavor or quality, but many foods are safe to eat after this date.
  • Get Creative with Recipes – Soups, stews and salads are great options for many leftover veggies and grains. For example, overripe tomatoes can be added to a homemade sauce and brown bananas are perfect for your morning smoothie or shake.
  • Plate Up in the Kitchen – Food left on the plate is most commonly thrown out. Instead of family style, where dishes are on the table, consider portioning out meals in the kitchen to avoid over-serving.
  • Donate to Those in Need – Consider donating extra food items to local food banks, food pantries and charities. You can find local food banks accepting donations through WhyHunger.com

As a leader in global nutrition, Herbalife Nutrition was founded, nearly 40 years ago, on the importance and value of good nutrition, providing a reliable source of nutritious food through a network of independent distributors to customers worldwide.

4 Ways to Improve Facebook Video Marketing

October 15, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

Video marketing is one of the most effective ways to generate leads and boost sales.

Video content is engaging, as evidenced by the success of streaming platforms including YouTube and Twitch, and the fact that it’s versatile in the topics it encompasses makes it a smart investment. Nonetheless, there are a few ways for one to make their advertising efforts stand out among the competition. As provided by Carola Jain, CMO at Spartan, here are four ways to improve your Facebook video marketing.

  1. Provide captions with videos. By performing a cursory scroll on Facebook, it’s easy to notice that most videos feature subtitles. One of the reasons for this is that while videos on Facebook automatically play, they don’t feature audio until a user enables it. This is where subtitles come into play, since they provide context to the images a viewer is presented with. No matter how short a video on Facebook is, it should include captions; this will have a considerable impact on video marketing efforts moving forward.
  2. Experiment with different video formats. What one must know about Facebook video marketing is that it isn’t an exact science, which is why experimentation is encouraged. For example, one may assume that video content shot horizontally is ideal, as it reflects traditional video. On the flipside, video content shot vertically tends to perform better on mobile platforms, which are just as important as desktop platforms, if not more so. Experiment with different formats to see which offers more engagement. From there, marketing efforts should be adjusted accordingly.
  3. Promote Facebook video content. The more eyes that Facebook video content attracts, the better it will perform. This is a given, but one may not consider the importance of promotion across other social media platforms. What this does, in theory, is attract an audience that may not have been found otherwise. Furthermore, it encourages viewers to find content creators on Facebook so that they can more closely follow the work that they publish. Though video is the content being consumed, marketing on different platforms shouldn’t be ignored.
  4. Include a call to action. Like any piece of promotional material or content, a Facebook video should include a call to action. This instructs or encourages a viewer to complete a certain action after watching a video. Such an action could be clicking a “learn more” link, visiting a testimonials page, signing up for a newsletter, or completing a transaction. Regardless, the best Facebook video marketing campaigns feature CTAs that viewers can carry out.

Mary Kay CMO Contributes Opening Chapter of New Entrepreneurship Book

October 14, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

Go-to-Market Strategies for Women Entrepreneurs: Creating and Exploring Success details some of the most successful and powerful women over the last fifty years, including Mary Kay Ash.

Sheryl Adkins-Green, chief marketing officer for Mary Kay Inc., contributed the opening chapter and shares time-honored principles and “keys to success” from Mary Kay Ash, one of the world’s greatest female entrepreneurs. From home-based businesses to women-led global businesses, the book explores the impact of female empowerment, the very cornerstone of a Mary Kay business.

More than 55 years ago, Mary Kay Ash launched her company with the purpose of empowering women. A change champion and groundbreaking businesswoman, she dedicated her life to female entrepreneurs. Today, her timeless principles connect a community of women who embraced entrepreneurship and grew it into a global empire.

“Our company’s founder, Mary Kay Ash, changed the world of business by creating more opportunities for women and we are proud to share strategies and ‘keys to success’ as a contributor to this new entrepreneurship book,” said Adkins-Green. “Mary Kay Ash’s lifetime of achievements made her a trailblazing entrepreneur, while her lasting legacy has made her an icon. Our company was built by a woman, for women. Our continued mission of empowering women worldwide is as important now as it has ever been.”

The new book provides a lens into the power of female entrepreneurship and is edited by entrepreneurship expert Victoria Crittenden, Professor of Marketing at Babson College. Crittenden’s research has been published extensively in journals such as the Journal of Academy of Marketing Science and Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice. In 2015, she co-edited Evolving Entrepreneurial Education: Innovation in the Babson Classroom.

“Through discussing examples of history’s leading women entrepreneurs like Mary Kay Ash, this book acts as both an inspiration for women just setting out on their own entrepreneurial journey and validation to those women who have already encountered the ups and downs of entrepreneurial endeavors,” said Crittenden. “As I shared in the introduction of the book, my own mother began a direct-selling business when I was a child and I witnessed first-hand how empowering a woman can change her outlook on life and, thus, her children’s lives.  I believe that entrepreneurship is in the DNA of the women and stories appearing in the chapters of this book and I’m honored to include Mary Kay Ash.”

Nu Skin Surpasses 650 Million Meals Donated; Announces Sustainability Efforts

October 14, 2019 by DSN Staff Leave a Comment

Nu Skin announced another major milestone in its Nourish the Children (NTC) initiative, surpassing more than 650 million meals purchased and donated since 2002.

Malnourished children in more than 50 countries around the world have been fed VitaMeal, a nutrient-dense food, from one of NTC’s third-party charity partners after Nu Skin sales leaders, customers and employees purchase and donate the bag of food.

Nu Skin Chairman of the Board Steven J. Lund delivered the news in front of more than 10,000 sales leaders who gathered in Salt Lake City last week at the companys biennial sales conference.

“The Nu Skin family continues to come together to be a force for good throughout the world,” said Lund. “We are grateful for the ongoing generosity of our sales leaders, customers and employees who support the Nourish the Children initiative and make it possible for us to feed more than 120,000 malnourished children a day. We realize that much more still needs to be done and look forward to continuing to build upon the momentum that we have created.”

Company Focuses Sustainability Efforts Around Key Initiatives

Nu Skin also recently introduced its areas of focus for sustainability and several key initiatives. CEO Ritch Wood identified three areas of focus for the company’s sustainability efforts: people, planet and product.

“People are at the heart of everything we do at Nu Skin, and improving the lives of people will only happen when we become better stewards of our planet and continue to develop products that are made from the best possible combination of quality ingredients and innovative technology,” said Wood.

Wood also introduced five specific pledges Nu Skin is making toward its sustainability efforts:

  • Nu Skin will create an environmental impact scoring system, and the company’s top 20 products will have an improved environmental impact score by the end of 2020.
  • Nu Skin will assess and score 100 percent of its products beginning to end, mindfully making changes to benefit the planet by 2023.
  • Nu Skin will change all its packaging to be reusable, recyclable, recycled, refillable or recoverable before 2030.
  • Nu Skin is aspiring to build a global network of zero-waste facilities to reduce its carbon footprint.
  • Nu Skin will invest at least 50 percent of its Foundation giving in communities and people that are providing essential resources to our planet and its inhabitants.

“We created these initiatives because we care about the impact that we are making on the world and on the environment and to bring more focus to our sustainability efforts. We look forward to doing even more; to continue putting forth efforts and making improvements to become a leader in sustainability,” continued Wood.
