Young Living Essential Oils published a study in Diversity, a scientific journal, chronicling a comprehensive study on bees in North America and their habits of visiting lavender. The results of the study demonstrate the lavender plant’s role in supporting a diverse community of bees. It also studied the impact biodiversity, specifically lavender plants and responsible agricultural practices, can have on bees.
Documenting bee diversity at Mt. Nebo Botanical Farm and Distillery, the study found that a total of 566 bees representing 68 species visited the farm; lavender was the primary attractant for bees; conservation land plots designed to mimic natural habitats play an important role for pollinators; and how crucial pollinator-friendly practices, like crop diversity and pesticide-free pest control, is to bee diversity and health.
“At Young Living, we’re trailblazers who continually push the boundaries of what’s possible,” said Jacob Young, Young Living Director of Business Development and co-author of the Diversity article. “Our study has sparked interest from scientists worldwide, fostering potential collaborations to further this research. There’s still so much to learn and discover down the road, particularly regarding the pivotal role bees play in the quality of our essential oils.”
