The House Education and Workforce Committee passed H.J.Res. 116, a resolution that would provide for congressional disapproval of the Department of Labor’s Independent Contractor Rule. The final rule, which went into effect March 11, sought to combat employee misclassification and better protect worker rights, but was seen by many industry analysts as government overreach that disregarded the potential negative impact for millions of direct sellers who operate their businesses as independent contractors.
The Direct Selling Association (DSA) is currently leading the lobbying committee to pass the resolution in both the House and Senate.
