In a partnership with WeAreTeachers, a resource hub for educators, Medifast, the parent company of direct selling organization OPTAVIA, launched a free nationwide K-5 curriculum promoting healthy habits. These lesson plans, called “Healthy Habits For All,” are modeled after the company’s own Habits of Health system and designed to equip students with the health and wellness education they need to build healthy habits at an early age.
These curriculum packs are free and can be downloaded from the WeAreTeachers website, but the company plans to make them available to students in Title 1 schools first.
“This curriculum provides health education resources on a national scale, with a focus on under-resourced communities,” said Dan Chard, Chairman and CEO of Medifast. “The lesson plans are designed to be simple and easy to teach in school–where children spend a majority of their time–and empower generations to embrace a healthy lifestyle. We’ve seen how powerful habit creation can be in transforming the way our independent Coaches and Clients live, and we’re excited to provide resources to help teachers encourage their students to adopt positive behaviors that can lead to lifelong healthy habits.”
The curriculum has already been downloaded more than 1,500 times and Medifast estimates that the lesson plans will impact 20,000 students, serving 700 school districts across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
