The U.S. Direct Selling Association (DSA), in its 2021 Growth & Outlook Study, reported a predicted growth between 4%-7% for the channel in 2021. With this forecast, direct selling retail sales are expected to reach between $41.7 billion and $42.9 billion, a record high for the industry.
“This growth forecast for direct selling is consistent with DSA research year-to-date (including annual Growth & Outlook, quarterly DataTracker, and monthly QuickPulse surveys), public company reporting, member growth expectations, and broader retail and labor market macroeconomic indicators/forecasts,” said Joseph N. Mariano, president of DSA. “As Americans’ interest continue to rise in entrepreneurship, flexible work arrangements and supplemental income, direct selling will continue to attract people to the independent direct selling sales force. Furthermore, the channel’s history of innovation and adaptability, as well as the diversity of consumer goods and services offered through both online and person-to-person selling has served the industry well not only last year but in previous years. The industry remains constant in its efforts to provide improved customer centricity and has positioned itself well for more growth in the future with this dedicated focus.”
