Shopify has purchased the domain name Shop.com from Market America for a record-breaking $100 million. The number, although not yet publicly confirmed, was provided in a November 3rd earnings call for Shopify as well as other public statements. Shopify booked a $99 million intangible asset purchase and an analyst on the call mentioned the $100 million purchase, which Shopify President Harley Finkelstein did not deny.
Finkelstein called the acquisition “an incredible prime address” and stated that relocating to shop.com from shop.app would better support the brand’s ambitions to become a more visible and credible consumer shopping destination. Shopify is expected to anchor and expand its consumer-facing web infrastructure to improve product discovery and direct purchases.
The acquisition includes the web address only, not the former shop.com operating business. The previous domain acquisition record was $70 million for the purchase of the domain ai.com in 2026.
