Hillsdale College, a liberal arts college located in southern Michigan, has announced that its new graduate school will bear the name of Amway Chairman Steve Van Andel. Van Andel, a Michigan native and 1978 Hillsdale graduate, has supported the school in establishing an endowment for scholarships and operations.
“Steve Van Andel has an outstanding record of principled service in business, in life, and in his work with the College,” said Hillsdale President Larry P. Arnn. “It is an honor and privilege to have his family name attached to our graduate school.”
The Van Andel Graduate School of Statesmanship offers both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Politics, with courses aimed at reviving the principles of American constitutionalism.
“I’ve always admired the philosophy of this fine institution, and I’m happy to partner with Hillsdale to further the college’s long-standing mission of education,” said Van Andel, who currently serves on the college’s board of trustees.
Under the leadership of Co-CEOs Van Andel and Doug DeVos, whose fathers founded the company, Amway currently ranks as the No. 1 direct selling company in the world. Earlier this year, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce named Van Andel Chairman of its Board of Directors. He also serves on the board of directors of The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Metropolitan Health Corporation, Metropolitan Hospital Foundation, and the Van Andel Institute, a major health research center.
