Following a recent ruling by the U.K. Supreme Court that found Uber drivers should be classified as workers, and Uber’s unsuccessful appeal, the ride-hailing company announced it will provide workers with pension and holiday pay benefits and a minimum wage.
This decision and subsequent action is expected to have strong implications for the gig economy within the U.K., and the beginning of other similar court battles around the world.
Uber will begin offering these benefits immediately to its more than 70,000 drivers within the U.K.
