Direct selling continues to be Europe’s largest provider of independent business opportunities.
Statistics released from Seldia, the European Direct Selling Association, show that sales volume has experienced constant growth over the last five years, with 2011 totals reaching 17.8 billion euros.
In addition, the number of people engaged in direct selling in the European Union is now estimated to be over 4 million. Across Europe, that number is 11 million, 84 percent of whom are women.
Seldia also offered the following 2011 statistics:
- More than 26,000 Europeans are now permanently employed through direct selling companies.
- Of the products sold, 76 percent were manufactured in Europe
- Leading sales categories were Cosmetics/Personal Care (36%), Home Improvement (16%) and Wellness (14%(bullet) ).
- Top countries (in sales) included France (3.7 billion euros), Germany (2.8 billion euros), Italy (2.4 billion euros) and the UK (1.4 billion euros).
