Herbalife and MonaVie Sponsor Indy 500 Cars

Two prominent direct selling companies gained exposure to millions on May 24 during the 2009 Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Ind. Herbalife sponsored the KV Racing Technology car driven by IndyCar veteran Townsend Bell. MonaVie partnered with Dale Coyne Racing and driver Tomas Scheckter, 2002 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year.

herbalife carDriving the Herbalife No. 8, Bell finished fourth place in his third Indy 500 appearance. “Townsend is a talented athlete who exemplifies a healthy, active lifestyle,” said Herbalife Chairman and CEO Michael O. Johnson. “We’re glad to offer him an edge from a nutritional standpoint to be a strong racer, and we’re proud to have him representing us at one of the world’s most popular sporting events.”

Last year, 34-year-old Bell, competing in just his second Indy 500, had a solid race, qualifying 12th and finishing 10th. The California native made his Indy 500 debut in 2006, qualifying 15th then battling his way into eighth place before suspension damage ended his day, placing him 22nd. “Townsend is a proven talent who will provide valuable experience and knowledge to the team,” said KVRT co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven. “I also want to welcome and thank Herbalife for joining our effort. Herbalife is an outstanding company, and we appreciate their support of Townsend and KVRT.”

MonaVie CarTomas Scheckter, driving the No. 19 MonaVie car, placed 12th overall. After starting from the 26th position, Scheckter used his excellent race-management skills to gain several positions throughout the day and push for a strong finish. “I’m so glad the team at MonaVie put their trust in me,” Scheckter said. “Going from 26 to 12 was just awesome.”

MonaVie’s sponsorship provided Indy 500 viewers with a first look at the company’s new Energy drink—MonaVie Emv. “MonaVie is pleased to introduce the MonaVie brand and new MonaVie Emv at the greatest spectacle in racing,” says MonaVie Founder and President Dallin Larsen. “This sponsorship will help introduce MonaVie’s new energy drink to those looking for the perfect equation of health and energy to recharge both mind and body.”
